Atelier VRAC crafts amphitheater out of wood and hay bales

During a local festival, Atelier VRAC reveals It’s Oh So Quiet, a temporary installation in Romanian Făgăraș Mountains forming an intimate amphitheater. Aiming to raise awareness about the urgent conservation needs of the region, the structure offers a moment of retreat from the bustling event. Constructed from a frame out of locally sourced wood and a body of hay bales, the installation provides a space for quiet observation, spontaneous interaction, and reflection, bridging the festival with its mountainous backdrop. The design is defined by a two-sided facade that creates a threshold between the festival and nature.

It’s Oh So Quiet emphasizes the needs of the romanian mountains

Buchurest-based Atelier VRAC’s intervention stands as an ephemeral yet thought-provoking gesture, emphasizing the need for environmental stewardship in the Făgăraș region. While the exterior of It’s Oh So Quiet remains solid and rhythmic, the interior amphitheater opens toward the mountains. Visitors can interact with the structure in multiple ways—by ascending one of the two corner staircases along the blue wooden facade or by slowly climbing the haystack amphitheater, engaging with its modular elements step by step. The wooden framework provides structural support, establishing a sense of rigor and rhythm.

By night, solar-powered luminous spheres subtly illuminate the installation, enhancing its presence in the nocturnal landscape. Positioned slightly apart from the main event, the amphitheater doubles as an adventurous playground, challenging festivalgoers to engage with the surroundings in an alternative way.
